6 Mighty Fine Thonets

Jul 08, 12 6 Mighty Fine Thonets

Well these are an interesting combination. 6 Thonet hoop back chairs available. Bent wood that’s been painted a subdued golden hue. Black upholstered seat with brass thimble feet.

Michael Thonet, born in 1796, established himself as a cabinet maker in 1819, and began playing with glue and bent wood. Many attempts failed until the Boppard layerwood chair came about in the 1830s. By 1851, the London World’s Fair awarded him with the bronze medal for his Vienna Chair, and a silver in 1855, at the Paris World’s Fair.

Michael Thonet died in 1871 in Vienna. When he passed his company had sales locations throughout Europe as well Chicago and New York.
